Crane Away transports a military helicopter to Glastonbury Festival

Festivals and farm transport: Crane Away’s busy summer

Transport over the summer doesn’t stop – in fact between festivals, farms and providing emergency transport, we’ve been rather busy!

Transporting farm machinery

We’ve transported all sorts of farm equipment and machinery over the summer, including various grain dryers, a sprayer, an irrigation wheel and a 24 foot bale trailer. In the last couple of months, we’ve travelled from Cornwall to Penrith, and Perth to Lands End for the farmers!

Transporting farm machinery requires specialised handling due to its size, weight, and delicate nature. Our experienced operators can carefully load and unload heavy equipment from farms, fields, and warehouses, ensuring minimal risk of damage during transit.

Festival transport

Who do you call if you’re thinking of moving a repurposed ex-military Falklands Royal Navy helicopter to Glastonbury Festival? Us, of course!

Sculptural art and dance collective Arcadia built The Dragonfly – an innovative new stage for Glastonbury 2024, and the helicopter was at the heart of the piece.

Emergency lifting

We had an interesting surprise international job earlier this month! A gigantic crane used for loading and unloading boats at Portland Port in Dorset needed a new grab – and fast! The issue was causing a significant delay with a queue of waiting boats… oh, and the grab was in Belgium.

We were moving a cabin in Surrey when we got the call, so after completing that job, Carl drove home to Dorset to collect another driver to keep within the legal driving hours limit. Katy met Carl at the end of the drive with his tea wrapped in foil and off they went to Belgium!

This was a complex operation that required precision and expertise. Hiab transport companies, with their heavy-duty cranes and skilled operators, are well-suited for this task. We safely lifted and moved the massive grab from our trailer to the crane, ensuring that it was securely positioned. Our specialised equipment and rigorous safety protocols guarantee a smooth and efficient delivery, even in challenging port environments. The huge grab filled the whole of our wafer deck, but we saved the day by getting there quickly and safely.

Transporting shepherds huts

Of course, the summer wouldn’t have been complete without transporting lots of shepherd’s huts, both old and new! Moving them around the country, fixing wheels, squeezing them into the perfect position and re-siting them for groundworks… every day is different!

“Blown away by the brilliance of Crane Away! They are the silent heroes behind the scenes of hut heroes, Plankbridge. […] This hut was my husband’s lockdown project and, whilst the making of it was creative and cathartic, we never really thought about how on earth we were going to move it… After a plethora of companies said they simply didn’t have the kit to move such a vast beauty, Crane Away jumped to our rescue and weren’t fazed one bit. We so often see things like this in situ, but only too rarely think about how on earth they get there. THANK YOU Crane Away and Plankbridge for coming up with this perfect solution.”
